Ist List: Be Cool #s 2 and 1

Seriously, the heat has been so intense it caused us to forget to post
yesterday’s entry for the top cool places to stay cool. So today Toronto is lucky; not only do you get a double Ist List entry, but also a little bit of a breeze and cool rain to clear the air.

They’ve been calling you every day since the heat wave started. Thinking, in that typical parent way, that by telling you how cool and a/c-ed their house is, you would want to come home. But really, you’ve seen it as nothing more than bragging and go home only when they’re at work to steal the fans.
Torontoist says, bite the bullet! Spend a night in cold luxury; dad
will make margaritas and mom will convince the neighbors to let you swim in their pool. The best thing about parents is they will even welcome late-night returns home: we had some friends who got so suffocated in the heat that they drove home to Niagara Falls at 6am.
1. The Ferry, The Island, and The Commute To Both
Pack up some music and a book to do the trip solo, or grab your friends for a relaxing day of Island fun. Going to the island is a journey that can keep you cool the entire day: all you have to do is brave the heat at a bus stop, and the always-air conditioned subway system will take care of the rest.ferry_torontoist.gif Think about the bat-cave coolness of the underground street-car stations between Union and the Island Ferry Docks. Even when you surface, you’ll be south of the Gardiner; an area which never fails to be 5 degrees cooler than the rest of the city. And once you’re on the ferry, the lake breeze makes a cardigan almost necessary to stop goose bumps from rising.
