Hot Hot Heat

2005_06_02 Ice.jpgIn the asphalt jungle, the satisfying taste of cottage country can be scarce, especially on glorious days like today when TOist screams for ice cream. But reluctant urbanites can get their fix of Sugar Shack Maple, Orange Pineapple or Death by Chocolate from Kawartha Dairy, the go-to scoop of Muskoka and Georgian Bay’s weekend warriors. In the Annex, there’s Madeleines Cherry Pie & Ice Cream, and further south, it’s at Sugarpants, a kitschy, girly Parkdale shop you can’t miss thanks to the electric turquoise façade. TOist also heartily recommends the sweet scent of fresh sugary waffles wafting from Dutch Dreams (though be prepared for long line-ups). Those more inclined to la dolce gelato than Philly-style ices should head west along St. Clair directly to the Corso Italia for the best Boot-scoop in town: at La Paloma Gelateria (tip: pair nocciola with banana for a true taste of summertime heaven).
