A Toronto Thing

walkingbookENG.gif
The Federal and Municipal Governments have locked arms in a quest to get adult Ontarians fit by 2010. They think bus shelter posters by For Better or For Worse’ Lynn Johnston will help do this. We know the adult Ontarians love them some FBFW, but won’t it take a bit more than that to get folks walking and talking? Yes. The City is also spending $547,069 to establish walking programs, create better signage and make maps. And who doesn’t love a good map.
The name of the initiative is a bit cumbersome – Get Your Move On:Making Physical Activity a Toronto Thing – but we wish the campaign success, even if it means we’ll have to enter into conversations about mallwalking with greater frequency. And it’s especially important for our fair city, which “has the lowest levels of physical activity in urban Ontario,” according to Councillor Olivia Chow.
And from the Active 2010 site –6 minutes to a better you?
