Poetry On The Way

2005_05_26AsThePoetsAffirm.jpgOttawan six-piece As The Poets Affirm are currently celebrating the release of their sophomore album, The Jaws That Bite, The Claws That Catch (Zunior) with a cross-Canada tour that stops at the El Mocambo upstairs on Friday night.
As their name implies, they have some serious artistic aspirations (or pretentions, depending on your point of view). Thankfully, they also to have the goods to back it up. Blending classical, pop and post-rock influences into a heady instrumental brew, their sound evokes a more concise Godspeed without the apocalypse (or a little less, anyway) and a little heavier on the string sections. Needless to say, this is not your typical bar band. Samples are available on their website as well as New Music Canada.
Also on the bill for Friday are In Support Of Living and Off The International Radar.
