Weekend concerts

2005-05-13-stereototal.JPGIt’s great living in a city that attracts such a diverse cross-section of musical acts every weekend. From indie rock to loser rock, from hip hop to hop-scotch, from classical to jazz, you’re bound to find something.
Old Soul are playing the Santa Cruz party at Lee’s Palace tonight, $8. See here. Zoilus’ site says that “live-video-feed make-out (and sometimes more) booth, Mars Volta apres-festivities” are part of the show. Eye’s got the story too.
The Mars Volta (prog rock) are playing a sold out show at the Kool Haus. A lot of people really like these guys, maybe you do too. Expect to find scalpers out in full form tonight. Tickets were $25 at one point.
Saturday, May 14
Gang of Four (post-punk innovators) are playing an early show at the Phoenix. Surprisingly this show isn’t sold out. Get your $27.50 tickets at the usually places. Doors at 6. Gang of Four have a re-issue of Entertainment!, their 1979 debut album out soon.
Martha and the Muffins play Hugh’s Room for $28.
Sunday, May 15
Stereo Total are playing at Lee’s Palace for $13 along with Hawney Troof and Les Georges Leningrad. This is likely to be the most entertaining concert of the weekend. It’s hard to describe the music Stereo Total make. It’s kind of a medley of pop, rock, punk, disco, electro, new wave, etc. It’s probably best to just download some songs from this page.
