Tall Poppy Interview – Jon Sheehan, Mayoral Look-Alike

jonsheehan.gifDuring the day, Etobicoke resident Jon Sheehan is known as an OCUL/VDX Support Assistant with the University of Toronto Libraries. But at night, Sheehan becomes one of the most instantly recognizable faces in the city.
With his well-worn brown blazer and flowing hair, Sheehan is a natural David Miller look-alike.
So what’s it like to resemble the mayor of the largest city in the country? Torontoist caught up with the man who looks like the man for quick discussion of looking mayorish.
Why do you think you look like David Miller?
I’ve actually heard it more from other people.
When?
Well, that night in the pizza place, when you tried to get me free pizza by pretending I was David Miller.

davemiller.gifAh yes. That was during the election, was it not?
Yeah. I was wearing a brown blazer that night. I think everyone was pointing out the resemblance.
We didn’t end up with the free pizza though, did we?
No. No we didn’t. Maybe only because he wasn’t the mayor yet.
Were there any other instances of this sort of recognition?
My parents had lunch at a restaurant in the summer…and got seated next to David Miller. My mom overheard Miller speaking and laughing, and she claims she had to turn around and look to ensure that it wasn’t me.
A similar laugh?
And voice. Look and sound like him, according to my mom. Though the comparisons have sort of died down lately.
JON1.gifIs that a good thing? Or do you like being told you look like David Miller?
Well, he’s fallen out of favor recently, hasn’t he? In the Toronto Sun anyway. They call him a socialist. And they get on him about stopping the Island bridge.
Do you support a bridge to the Toronto Island Airport?
I’m against the bridge. I’ve lived without it before, so I can live without it now.
I’d like to add, though, that I’d be willing to throw my hat in the ring to be cast as a young Miller in any future biography television series or feature films.
