Culture Jamming Nike
The ads for Nike’s 10K RunTO event have invaded subways, bus shelters and Toronto streets. The orange ads which poke fun at the habits of various Toronto neighbourhoods have been the talk of the town and Torontoist has heard many people praise the ads for their tongue in cheek attitude.
But one group hasn’t forgotten that the run is a blatant cash grab by Nike that takes advantages of our love and adoration of the city we live in. The Toronto Public Space Committee hasn’t forgotten this fact and also reminds us that Nike, cool ads and shoe-recycling, track building initiatives aside still runs exploitative sweatshops. These ads are available for download on the Toronto Public Space website.
