Act Now for Humps

mindingmayormiller.gifPiecing the quotes together:
-“The City of Toronto is close to winning significant new powers on issues that touch the daily lives of residents, according to an interim report released yesterday by the city,” says the Globe.
-“Just one example- speed humps. Miller says it’s absurd City Council has to get the okay from Queen’s Park before installing one,” say the wires.
-“The city government of Toronto will soon have the power to raise taxes without waiting for provincial approval,” according to the Post.
-“David Miller is a rock star,” says Torontoist.
Modernizing the 1997 City of Toront Act will mean more powers for the municipality, more money for speed hump management, the ability to extend bar hours and set speed limits and the right to determine the size of council. All this potential new power could go to Mayor Miller’s nicely-coiffed head. Let’s hope it does not. And bring on the urban design review council! Someone needs to have a heart to heart with all those superstar architects.
