The Future of 20HZ
There’s a rebellion brewing over at Toronto Indie Rock Community Board 20hz. It started a little over a week ago when current El Mocambo owner Abbas Jahangiri announced on the board that he now owned 20hz.ca and would be turning it into a Toronto ripoff of beloved/behated indie institution pitchfork.com.
On one hand, if Jahangiri can make his site even one tenth as influential in the indie-world as Pitchfork, he can do a great deal of good for indie musicians in Toronto and maybe even all over Canada. On the other, Torontoist understands the lamentations of 20hz regulars decrying the commercialization of what was a truly beautiful, democractic and open expression of dedication to Toronto’s indie community.
You can read more about it at the suddenly back from the dead eye blog.
