Satellite Technology, Not Just for Evil Madmen Anymore

2005_4_7drevil.jpgEveryone’s been going crazy over Google Map’s Satellite feature.
While the uses for navigation are questionable, the coolness factor of the feature isn’t! The maps for an urban centre like Toronto are quite detailed and you can try it with virtually every urban centre in North America (Here’s Chicago!)
Certain things do look cooler from several miles up. The CN Tower casts a very very long shadow on the rest of the downtown core, Pearson is huge and the Bach-inspired landscaping of theToronto Music Garden is distinct from outer space.
Equally distinct is how ugly our waterfront is. A beautiful, long lakefront is dissected by a massive highway, and instead of beaches, paths and greenspace you have parking lots and abandoned industrial spaces. It’s crystal clear, even from a couple of miles up.
