Ryerson Gets Nicholson…
And a million other iconic images. News yesterday that Ryerson would be recipient to what is one of the coolest anonymous donations ever nearly blew us way. The Black Star Agency holds the rights to some of the most seminal snaps in history, and thanks to the marvels of digitization, they no longer need their prints. So, by some blessed fortuity, Ryerson will be recipient to Black Star’s three hundred thousand strong collection, a gift worth approximately 7 million dollars. They’ll also be building a gallery to house the works.
But what TOist wants to know is who’d give such a majestic gift to the once and former polytechnique. We’re not saying Rye High doesn’t deserve it. We’re glad to see this trove of twentieth century goodies finding residence in Canada, and Toronto. Nope, we’re just curious about the alum or friend of the Uni that was so moved to give such an awesome gift. In fact, if we had the time, we’d stand on the corner half-ironically shouting ‘World Class City’ through a megaphone, because a portfolio of Cartier-Bresson’s certainly brings this town one step closer.
