FashionisTO: Outfit for Print

A few weeks back we reported on a frightening new trend – Canadian Idol for professional subgroups. It began with Media Idol, but next up they’ll have Food Service Idol, Accountants Idol, and the one we fear most, Plumbers Idol. But the Media Idol types had trouble enough putting together a decent ensemble, a tune and a little soft shoe in the hopes of winning big, and validating that unfortunate experience at the high school talent show lo those many years ago. Here, our panel
weighs in on why these media types should stick to what they know.
Ben Mulroney with Arisa Cox
AGRELL: Poor Ben. The son of a former PM, host of a formerly entertaining television show and wearer of that T-shirt-over-long-sleeve look that was so cute on university boys. And yet he still has to pay women to show him their tits.
ATKINSON: Idol lessons learned from the Jessica Simpson School of Talent: when all else (including your vocal track) fails, bat your eyelashes and flash the twins: the big lovable oaf next to you won’t notice a thing.
Enza Supermodel
AGRELL: Toronto’s most ubiqutous supermodel had an unfortunate set-back during her rendition of Lola. The stitches from her recent sex-change operation burst, revealing her large, pink, boa-like lower intestine — the only organ that was part of the original package.
ATKINSON: It’s Kirstie Alley, the actress formerly known as Fat, taping her latest Jenny Craig promo. But wait, no, it’s Enza! Sweet, guileless Enza, raiding Veronica’s Closet again.
Leah McLaren
AGRELL: 7148 is actually the number of facial expressions that are more flattering than this one. Ms McLaren had her picture taken while warming up before the competition and was actually demonstrating for the judges just how her large mouth got her a plumb job at the Globe and Mail. (And by that, I mean she was demonstrating her wit, or course.)
ATKINSON: Sexy Secretary finishes her shorthand early, dolls up in a cute jacket and opens wide in anticipation of Administrative Professionals Day.
