This week Torontoist checked out the popular and long-time Queen Street favourite, the Vienna Home Bakery. Its 50s décor, red and white checkered floors and laid-back atmosphere – not to mention the smell of baked goodies including ginger muffins, brownies, scones, and homemade pies – make it a must try. Plus it’s even good for celeb spotting. TOist was just a seat away from hunky Canadian actor Peter Stebbings, famous for his role on the TV series Madison. We last spotted him at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival where he was starring in The Limb Salesman, directed by Degrassi’s Anais Granofsky.
Anyways, enough of the gossip, let’s get to the food! Vienna is known for its weekend brunch and fresh baked goods and bread, but TOist went for its Fruit Yogurt Granola bowl, which is seasonal fruit (including lots of fresh mango) layered on yogurt and delicious homemade maple granola, served in a giant nostalgic-looking sundae bowl and topped with a piece of star fruit. We will definitely head back to the bakery on a weekend to try their Eggs Bombay ($9) – poached eggs served on Vienna whole wheat toast, with curry, coconut, lime hollandaise sauce and home fries or salad. Light lunches are also available.
Vienna Home Bakery is located at 626 Queen Street West at Bathurst Street
