McGuinty is NOT a Fan
The Joel Bender film Deadly, about the infamous Paul Bernardo murder case, isn’t going to get too much money in ticket sales out of Queen’s Park. Both Premier Dalton McGuinty and Minister Jim Watson have told the press that they will not be seeing the Bender flick on grounds that it attempts to “capitalize on a terrible and horrific tragedy.” The movies producers say the film is meant to “promote predator awareness.” In line with that promotion, Deadly is scheduled to be released around the same time as Karla Homolka is out from prison, and is probably looking for Tim Horton’s meal-deal tie-ins. Homolka will be played in the film by the fiery redhead from That 70’s Show and various Maxim Magazine spreads. As it stands, Bender and his movie have not been picked up for Canadian release, so it seems like a veritable non-issue for Dalton (although banning the film is not totally out of the question).
