Go Pug Yourself!

OCAD_extresized.jpgYesterday brought us the launch of Pugly Toronto, and with the site, open voting on the Pugly awards themselves, which honour dubious achievements in architecture and urban planning. Though the flash site is more wonk than webtastic, the idea itself is fun, and TOist steeled itself to sit through the tedious page loads. The Puglies offer an opportunity to vote on the artistic merit of a handful of city structures, and given that we have both gaudy and glamourous structures rising from the ground all over the place these days, it’s about time the public was given a chance to make snap pronouncements on these million dollar buildings. It’s ‘Am I Hot or Not’ for the architectural set…Woodsworth College – Hot, Bloor Walk – Not!
The PugAws are advised by a supreme council of pugarbitors, all of them ‘individuals who are experts in their respective fields who share a passion for improving architecture and urban planning in the City of Toronto.’ And indeed, who could deny that Geddy Lee and Jeanne Beker are experts in their respective fields. We’re more than happy to pug along with these cultural savants. Bring on that crystal monstrosity!
