CBC HD For Thee
For once, that bloody promo girl is silent on something of import at the CBC. The claptrap herself hasn’t made any announcements about CBC’s shift to HDTV over the weekend, perhaps because the transition had been oft delayed, and execs wished to fend off any possible embarrassment. But it’s here, if quietly, and there’s even a companion CBC HD site that has apparently been around for awhile, if without any promotion. According to some, HD in Canada still has a long way to go, perhaps due to a lack of mandates on the part of the CRTC to force broadcaster implementation, as has been the case in the U.S. It’s a step forward for our slow-moving giant of a public broadcaster, but only useful to a very small number of people who both have HDTV and are interested in watching Canada: A People’s History again, in shmancy HD technicolour.
