V-Day with Malcolm Gladwell

2005_2_14malcolm.jpg Torontoist ‘hearts’ Malcolm Gladwell and a few us would love to spend an evening listening to the New Yorker writer lecture and pontificate on his new book Blink, which looks at how the snap judgements and impressions made on instinct can be just as valuable as those made by long and thoughtful deliberation.
Torontoist will get that chance tonight as Gladwell reads at his alma mater, the University of Toronto (MacLeod Auditorium, 7:30 PM). What’s not to love about Malcolm? Journalism school instructors everywhere hold up his stories for the New Yorker as paragons feature writing. Like other great writers before him he’s added concepts and phrases to the language (ie. ‘cool hunt,’ ‘tipping point’). He’s only 42 and he’s got a great head of hair! Malcolm, will you be our Valentine?
Malcolm is normally not a cheap date but tonight’s event will be free. Maybe it’s because he’s back in his old stomping grounds, or because he’s getting into the Valentine’s day spirit. Whatever the reason, Torontoist suggests you get there early.
