Terrell Owens is the New Vince Carter
Was Terrell Owens’ performance in this past Sunday’s Superbowl anymore more heroic than that of Deion Branch, Tom Brady, Tedy Bruschi or even Adam Vinatieri?
Owens did exactly what a healthy Owens is expected to do. His healing ankle clearly didn’t bother him, yet his performance wasn’t enough to win his team the game. So what makes his nine receptions so heroic? How about not much?
A hero is a difference maker. The only difference T.O. made was in the post-game press conference, when following his team’s loss, he continued to do what he does best – complain. However without anyone to focus his frustration on, he began hating on the media for their previous doubts of his ability.
Be careful not to bite the hand that feeds you, Terrell. This is the same media that made you who you are – nurturing your outspoken personality in development of the icon you are today.
The peak of the hostility came when he criticized the media for labeling him “selfish.” He offered an analogy with Brett Favre in his place, saying we would be using the words “hero” and “warrior” to describe the Packers quarterback in the same situation.
So on the day after the Patriots solidified there place among football’s greatest, why are we still talking about T.O. – a guy who got hustled on the field by the more reserved, more respectable Deion Branch? Simply put – because it’s all about T.O.
