Phil? Phil Connors? No, Wiarton Willie

While Punxsutawney Phil, having played a bit role in the fine B. Murray vehicle Groundhog Day, is a bit more famous world-wide, Canada’s own contribution to Whistle-Pig weather divination resieds only 120 km from Toronto in Wiarton. Here’s what a hog named Wiarton Willie had to say:
Willie’s shadow did not appear
Which means springtime is almost here
The time of year when flowers grow
When we finally see the end of snow
Though Wiarton was partly overcast today, we’ll go with Willie.
