Clocking the TTC

oldTTC.gifMaybe the TTC doesn’t have reliable clocks in their stations because they don’t want passengers growing irate and despondent over slow trains. Then again, maybe they were just waiting for a corporate partner to shimmy into the picture and provide them a timely service in exchange for their (and by dint, our) morning commute souls. The public space committee is concerned about these clock/commercial/cartoon combos, and so is TOist. We’d be happy to see a sign that gives us the time and lists delays, but commercials and photo contests? Spare us please.
The company behind the venture that Eye called foolish (and we reported on a few weeks earlier) is trying to get the Public Space committee on side, and trying to underplay the scope of their plans, but we’re just not excited about their offers of ‘Live local news from CityTV, updated regularly throughout the day.’ Doesn’t the TTC know that wall clocks are ridiculously cheap these days? In fact, TOist will spring for one for our local station, if it means we can avoid live TTC trivia.
