Paul Martin Junior fired Immigration Minister Judy Sgro today and replaced her with current HRDC top dog Joe Volpe. Despite no new information having come to light in the West York MP’s “Strippergate” scandal, the fickle Martin nonetheless went off message once again in dropping his support for his beleaguered underling. Which leads Torontoist to suspect that Ethics Commissioner Bernard “Shappy” Shapiro is on the verge of declaring Ms. Sgro in the wrong.
Sgro’s departure creates some major problems for the PM. With no Hungarian representation in the cabinet, Paul Jr. stands to lose the support of this country’s vast Magyar community. Come the next election, he might have ghoulash on his face.
On the other hand, Mr. Volpe’s ascension to Immigration should be a boon to the Southern European exotic dancer community. Ms. Sgro tended to fast-track the applications of Eastern European, namely Romanian, strippers. Volpe’s Italian heritage likely means your local skin joint will be brimming with Managasque and Maltese women. Represent!
