Hillbillies and Literary Accomplishment
Local writer and Book City clerk Derek McCormack has been named a finalist in the Lambda Literary Awards for his book The Haunted Hillbilly, a fantasty of sorts about Hank Williams’ costume designer, Nudie. McCormack has been a local favourite for a while, published in town by ECW, and across borders by those pliable craniums over at Soft Skull. McCormack’s up agaist Alan Hollinghurst, who won the Booker for Line of Beauty, but that doesn’t mean he won’t take home the prize.
For what it’s worth Mr. McCormack has also been blurbed by John Waters, which may be the higher of honours, depending on your priorities.
