The TTC Has Turned And Left Me Ten Cents Short
Citing a $15-million shortfall in the city budget, TTC chief Rick Ducharme said the TTC may be forced to hike fares an extra ten cents. The cash-strapped public transit system could see the increase as early as next March.
It appears the subway (or metro) might turn back to the days of costing three coins again. I hate three coins! Every time the TTC raises its fares, like two years ago, we at Torontoist like to play a little game called “HERE’S A SOLUTION TO FINANCING THE TTC.” It’s very easy to play; just sit around and think of better ways to fund the TTC.
I’ll start: I think David Miller should impose a levy to drive downtown, like Red Ken did in London. Or, just make drivers pay the ten cents to come into the city. I’m sure there are lots of people in Oakville who don’t mind paying ten cents.
Or, better yet, close down all those cheesy clubs around the Adelaide-Richmond Club District and open up better bars.
In all likelihood, though, Ducharme and Dave Miller are playing this game right now, and hopefully coming up better ideas.
