TFCA Says Look At Me!

2004-12-15T000347Z_01_GALAXY-DC-MDF793893_RTRIDSP_1_ENTERTAINMENT-FILM-TORONTO-DC.jpgNot content to be outshone by TIFF’s upstart Top Ten release, the Toronto Film Critics Association waited nary a minute before sending out their definitive list of good and bad. Filmwise. Sideways?
Torontoist is all for cursory surveys, and dubious research methods. And the results of our shoddy audience assessments of Alexander Payne’s latest effort tell us that people over forty love this movie, and people under forty see it for the well-intended pap that it, most unfortunately, is. It’s a depressing day when a movie with a Hallmark greeting card wine monologue of dramatic portent sends it barrelling to the top of ‘Best of’ lists. And it leads us to believe, based on our aforementioned shoddy analysis, that the TFCA must have a median age of 70 (of course, Liam Lacey skewers the average by being 112).
Surprisingly, the rest of the TFCA picks are perfectly reasonable, Nods to the excellent Maria Full of Grace, Charlie Kaufman, The Fog of War and Ryan.
