The year’s not over yet. There could be at least two more Beyonce/DC3 singles for us to consider for our Best of 2004 list. For those who don’t understand what we’re getting at, it’s a shot at Pitchdork’s OUTRAGEOUS best singles of 2004 list yesterday. Those aging cewebrities must not have known that their number nine pick, Beyonce’s “Naughty Girl”, was an unoriginal fourth single off of an overplayed 2-zero-zero-3 album. Anyway, here are some songs that have no connection to each other:
1. Camera Obscura – Teenager
In neeeeeeed of some year-end props. Off of Underachievers Please Try Harder.
2. AC Newman – Miracle Drug, AC Newman – Drink to Me Babe, Then
Newman! From his superb solo record The Slow Wonder. Torontoist would be disappointed if the whole world forgot about AC Newman around this time of year.
3. Danger Mouse – 99 Problems
Possibly the only good mash-up of the year? Sakamoto doesn’t think so.
4. Bloc Party – The Answer
The first three picks could make some sort of top whatevers list for 2004. This…probably couldn’t. Worth checking out though.
5. The Decemberists – 16 by 32, The Decemberists – The Sporting Life
From the upcoming Picaresque. Thanx to ToothPicVic for pointing these out. We just hope it’s not illegal or anything. If so, thanx to ToothPicVic for taking the rap!
6. Saturday Looks Good to Me – Life Me Up
The obligatory theft from our friend and mentor, Chromewaves. This track made Chromewaves top ten, so that means it’s good enough for us. Check here for more C-Waves picks for 2004.
This week, we learned that some lists smell like 2003, while others are more credible without the advertisements. Until next week!
