A Dash of Thievery
While the daring thieves of Belfast made off with fifty-two million dollars, Toronto thieves jumped in on the game. Not to be outdone by bankheisters across the sea, someone or ones made off with 330 tonnes of City of Toronto salt over the span of a few months this year. Estimated retail value – fifteen thousand dollars. Torontoist hopes it was insured.
Most interesting is the fact that officials say it took 20-25 truck loads to cart away all the NaCl. Yes, the Belfast robbers impersonated police in an elaborately-planned hostage heist, but carting away two dozen truckloads of salt is like taking a page from Die Hard, or is it Die Harder? What does this kind of thievery say about our fair city? Perhaps that the thieves are both skilled and practical. Most of the Belfast bills are traceable. TOist doubts the same is true for the salt.
