The Days Inn, It’s Better Than Grate!

2004_11_16hotel.gifReports are surfacing this morning that the city blew $850K on hotel rooms for the homeless that were never used. What can we say? Bummer. Total Bummer. What a shame that the city entered into such a ridiculous arrangement, one that best resembles charging policies at All-You-Can-Eat sushi nights, where you pay for what you can’t eat. And all this leftover sashimi at a time when city shelters were full to bursting.
It makes Torontoist wonder how many other expensive bureaucratic bungles lay simmering beneath infrequently washed hotel duvets.
In the same key of dubious spending minor, city council has yet to vote on the $47,000,000 311 service. The costs would be divided over three years. Not an extremely huge amount of money to pay for a service that’ll be infinitely better than Access Toronto. But not chump change either. 47 mil buys a lot of hotel rooms.
