Sons, Daughters, and Cats

2004_11_04sons&daughters.jpgThere’s an old saying that independent music from the U.K. is only ever as good as the last Clinic album. And, right now, that’s not very good. If this saying did actually exist, it would be overlooking the nice little debut from the Glasglow ensemble Sons & Daughters. But overlooking nice little bands is what people do. Sons & Daughters’ folk-tinged songs won’t get them any spots in Levi’s commercials, but they do get to open for Clinic this Friday, Nov. 5, at Lee’s Palace.2004_11_04catpower.jpg And speaking of nice folk music, Cat Power is back! She has a brand new independent film, featuring the performer in the forest playing songs or something to that effect (it’s experimental, alright?). Speaking For Trees: A Film by Mark Borthwick has been out since Oct. 26, but good luck finding it in stores – just like Clinic, it soooold out! (ouch.)
