Shep Is In The House
Used to be we Canadians could only enjoy the silly malaproprisms of Fox putty Shepard Smith in small doses. But as of today, Fox’s 24-hour news Canada channel is a go. The CRTC cleared the way, despite Canadian Association of Broadcasters opposition, saying that Fox’s negligible Canadian content would thereby pose no threat to homegrown operations.
More alarmingly, especially given the awful punditry that spewed forth on election night, is Canada.com’s report that the Canadian Radio, Television and Telecommunications Commission said it found ”there is substantial demand in Canada for Fox News.” Like a hole in the head. Apologies, Mr. Murdoch. Of course, and in fairness, freedom to broadcast on one of Canada’s hundreds of digital channels should be afforded the network. We just fear what Shep-spawn the network will bring upon us. Fair and Balanced, Torontoist’s coverage shall endeavour to remain.
