Propaganda Remixed
Terminus 1525, the Canadian web arts portal, has gotten together with the NFB to bring propaganda films back into the lives of relatively unbrainwashed young Canadians. They’ve created “-40,” a CD/DVD compilation of 20 young audio/video/new media artists who’ve taken the 1940s propaganda films supplied them, and created what Torontoist hopes will be good stuff(ie-new shorts and audio pieces). A little glam propaganda could be a good thing (glamaganda?), muses Torontoist. In fact, the NFB has its roots in propaganda/patriotic film – it even won its first Oscar with 1941’s Churchill’s Island, a documentary intended to help the war effort.
It all goes down tonight at the NFB Cinema, 8pm, 150 John St. Wear your finest Rosie the Riveter costume!
