Master of War: G.W. to Visit Canada

2004_11_16gwbush.jpgPresident George W. Bush is expected to make his first stately visit to Canadian soil later this month, causing some concern in our nation’s capital. As previously reported on Torontoist, a certain federal MP (that’s you Carolyn Parrish!) has ridiculed the sitting president and his allies on multiple occasions, one time even calling American people “bastards.”
While it is confirmed Bush will come to Ottawa on Nov. 30 for a two-day visit, it is not known whether he will give a speech to Parliament. When former President and Star Wars fan Ronald Reagan addressed Parliament in 1987, he was razzed by the NDP’s Svend Robinson. This is a situation that PM PM wants to avoid.
Bush administration also made headlines on Tuesday when they decided to challenge the lyrics of a Bob Dylan song…

2004_11_16bobd.jpgIn a move reminiscent of the 1960’s, Bush’s buddies the U.S. Secret Service are investigating a student rock band in Boulder, Colorado for covering the Dylan classic “Masters Of War” at a high school event. The teenager’s parents filed a complaint charging that the students are using the song to call for the death of GWB. The Secret Service agents hurried down to question the principal of the school and the teacher in charge of the concert, and are now reviewing the lyrics of the song. After “Masters of War” is given the shake down, parent and federal agents might also want to look into the words to another Dylan classic, “The Times They Are A-Changin’.”
“Come mothers and fathers / Throughout the land / And don’t criticize / What you can’t understand / Your sons and your daughters / Are beyond your command.” Bastards!
