Greatest Canadians, Worst Ratings
It was some kind of shadenfreude when Torontoist came upon the Globe’s piece on decreasing ratings for CBC’s ill-intentioned Greatest Canadians series. We hated the idea from the minute the corpse started soliciting submissions. Don’t we have enough hierarchies in the world without a state-sponsored grudge match between Trudeau and whomever would come close enough to conquer? Things only got worse for our opinions of this ratings-grab of a show when there was nary a woman among the ten selections.
So we open the floor for Torontoist’s least greatest Canadian series, one that aspires to nothing short of mediocrity, and nothing tall enough to be deemed robust. We may not have a lot of greatest Canadians (Don Cherry?), but we have least greatests aplenty. In the paraphrasized words of the world’s most recent loser, ‘bring it on!’
We don’t even think Mel is bad enough to be the baddest, but his slickster mug is our gauntlet thrown down. Torontoist awaits your submissions. And remember, least greatest doesn’t equal worst. It just means lower ratings than Corner Gas, and higher ratings than Air Farce.
Worst and wurst.
