As of today, Nov. 10, 2004, there have been 184 games cancelled in 56 days of the NHL Lockout. The NHL season is very close to being scrapped altogether, and that means no Olympic hockey in 2006 either. And now the NHL suffers yet another blow, as Maple Leaf forward Wade Belak has decided to go across the Atlantic to play hockey. Unfortunately for the league, the city of Toronto, and Belak’s cult-like fans, the spikey haired tough guy will play with the Coventry Blaze of the Elite Ice Hockey League in Great Britain. He feels bad about the move, but said that “if [he] waited longer and the season is cancelled, all the jobs might be gone.” At least in Britain, Belak can go about his daily business without being mobbed by hundreds of screaming girls everywhere he goes.
