Chalk it up to American Thanksgiving, or maybe the NHL lockout, or even Anna Nicole Smith’s 37th birthday (today! all the best, Anna), but this weekend got really big all of a sudden.
Friday night, if you’re outside the BDB-Magneta Lane-Tragically Hip circles, you’ve got options. There’s Ellen Allien‘s Bpitch beats at the Mod Club (Listen to a neat interview with her here). Then there’s the Femme Generation at Sneaky Dee’s (read more here). Then there’s the Waking Eyes at Horseshoe (another profile).
As for Saturday, the centerpiece of any weekend, it will be the biggest of the big. The Constantines will be playing two (2) shows at Lee’s Palace! One matinee and one evening! Also, Peterborough’s Serena Ryder at Massey Hall (um, I know). But if that wasn’t big enough, Herman’s Hermits, who were at one time bigger than the Beatles, are playing at the Hersey Centre!
Then, on Sunday, take in the Winona Ryder of independent music, Holly Golightly, at the Horseshoe. Or think outside the box by seeing the Diableros play Wavelength at Sneaky Dee’s.
So there you have it. Don’t say no one ever tells you anything.
