If you’re bored and looking for people with even less to do than you, Yorkdale Mall is currently host to the most soul-sucking ongoing contest ever. As a gimmick to promote the new season of 24, Virgin Radio and Global have chosen a group of nine people for the 24/7 Ultimate Fan Marathon. Their goal is to consecutively watch every single episode of all six previous seasons of the show in an attempt to break the World Record for Continuous TV Watching. And possibly win $24,000 (see what they did there?).

Last night, TOist was privy to a sneak preview of the new wing at Yorkdale Mall during the “Flaunt It” opening party, complete with champagne flutes, body-painted human mannequins and gleaming plate glass and stainless steel just begging for fingerprints. Workers were still scurrying around fixing tiles and adjusting the rectangular grass-filled planters until the moment guests arrived. Among the 40 new stores, there’s isn’t much you can’t –yawn—already find at Eaton Centre or Sherway Gardens. But TOist loves the airy design. Take a memo, dark and dreary Vaughan Mills, there’s gonna be a quiz. Imagine BCE Place’s dramatic vaulted glass cathedral ceiling (taken down a few notches to a mere 60 feet), a streetscape lined with faux-façade storefronts, and a polished Jerusalem limestone floor, and you get the picture. It’s like shopping a street market, indoors. TOist just might become a mall rat again.

Though it's a sad statement that a family of tourists from California was hanging at the Yorkdale Mall on their Toronto vacation, it's a sadder statement that their home RV, complete with all their personal belongings and pet hamster, was stolen from said mall. Poor tourists. And yes, we know the cops are busy, but wouldn't a 31-ft RV with green and brown trim and California plates be pretty hard not to find?
