The place to be at this year's Woofstock festival was the fountain in Berczy Park. Despite the moderate temperatures and a layer of suspicious-looking foam covering the water, the fountain was crowded with dogs fighting for rubber balls, chasing each other, and—in the case of one very determined Great Dane—doing vigorous laps.

As a prelude to this coming weekend's Woofstock festival, organizers arranged the Woofstock Doggie Weddings High Tea at the King Edward Hotel yesterday. The puntastic event—hosted by comedian Laurie Elliott—brought together doggy couples who wanted to prove their "commuttment" by taking their "bow vows." Each canine couple received a blessing from Reverend Dr. John Joseph Mastandrea and a certificate of "muttrimony".

ANIMALS: Love-struck pooches will have the opportunity to declare their undying canine love today at the first-ever Woofstock Doggie Weddings High Tea. Doggie couples dressed in wedding attire will receive a certificate of “muttrimony” upon celebration of their “commuttment.” The event is the official launch for next week’s Woofstock, North America’s largest festival for dogs and dog lovers. Proceeds from today’s fundraiser go towards the Pet Trust Fund in support of canine cancer research. Le Meridian King Edward Hotel (37 King Street East), 2–4 p.m., FREE ($10 donation suggested). Space is still available, online registration preferred: info@woofstock.ca

With Woofstock having just come to town, why not think about adopting an animal? The Toronto Humane Society just opened a satellite adoption centre in North York (2802 Victoria Park Avenue between Finch and Sheppard) to make adoption easier in addition to its original Toronto location at 11 River Street (at Queen Street East). Another resource is Toronto Animal Services, which has four locations and a website to check out new pets available to adopt.

Held during the first heatwave of summer, the trend at this weekend's Woofstock festival was cooling down. To that end dogs were presented with two options: the fountain in Berczy Park and the nearby Cool Doggies watering station; or the Ontario Dock Dogs pool on Market Street, where dogs charge down a dock after a toy and jump into the water, competing for distance.

If so, better free up your calendar because chances are she knows that Woofstock is coming to town this weekend (alternatively, she's sensing an imminent earthquake, in which case just fill the bathtub with water and crouch under a table).
