Last Sunday, Torontoist trekked to Woodbine Beach for a sandcastle-building extravaganza hosted by Art Attack!, the arts themed division of the Toronto Public Space Committee. The event was free, and open to anyone who wanted to participate. Liam O’Doherty, the event's organizer, told us that the purpose of the event was "to bring strangers together" and "have as much fun as possible."

As if Torontoist hasn't given you enough reasons to take a look at the Terrence Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research at The University of Toronto (Behnisch Architekten with architectsAlliance,) here is one more! The green building has now been shortlisted for the Lubetkin Prize by the (not to be confused with Interior Design magazine 'Architectural Digest')

Toronto's beloved beaches officially opened yesterday for the summer. The opening of the beaches comes as four of our beaches were internationally recognized for fantastic water quality by Environmental Defence: Cherry Beach, Hanlan’s Point Beach, Ward’s Island Beach and Woodbine Beach.

Artist and photoblogger HiMY SYeD likes to claim Woodbine Beach as his canvas. See him do so tonight as he creates a lantern work of art monument to spell out Nagasaki Hiroshima. The Full Circle project is an offshoot of a series of events taking place worldwide. SYeD has charted the progress of a group of Buddhist Monks who have walked for twenty-five days to raise awareness, and keep alive and 'atomic flame' that will finally be extinguished 60 years to the date. "To co-incide to the minute in realtime in New Mexico with extinguishing of the atomic flame," SYed will move his lanterns into place at 11pm. The lantern lighting ends at 11:30pm. And everything begins around 9pm.
