Vintage Toronto Ads: Beat the Spring Rush to the Bicycle Shop

Now that spring is officially upon us, thousands of bicycles are emerging from winter storage and returning to our pothole-riddled streets. It's a busy time for repair shops around the city, as riders bring their bicycles in for a tune-up. Cyclists in 1900 appear to have faced the same backlog in waiting to get their vehicles back as riders do during current peak tune-up periods. We're not sure how many customers took advantage of E.C. Hill's early-bird special, but we hope that their skill at installing a fresh pair of tires was better than their skill at spelling.

Vintage Toronto Ads: The Artwork of Royal Bank Plaza

During the development of Royal Bank Plaza, building designer Boris Zerafa was tasked with commissioning artwork to enhance the complex, especially the atrium. Vintage Toronto Ads: Astral Offers the Best of Two Worlds

Most of Torontoist's recent reports on Astral Media have centred on their outdoor advertising unit and its role in the city's new street furniture. We'll take a short break from our continuing coverage to look back at what Astral's television distribution arm was up to in 1980, when it offered programming that included a venerable prank show, adventure travel, and a mini-series starring David Niven as a World War II Canadian spymaster.

As Torontoist reported earlier today, media mogul Ted Rogers passed away early this morning. Today's ad features Rogers alongside his father, who was one of Canada's broadcasting pioneers.
