Please do not leave your hair, toilet paper or food waste in or around the sink. Thank you for your attention and assistance in trying to keep our washroom clean and sanitary. Photo taken by Jonathan Goldsbie in the men's washroom on the main floor of U of T's Rotman School of Management.......

Photo by khalijkhazar from the Torontoist Flickr Pool. One of the city's most popular annual events, Doors Open Toronto, returns this weekend for a ninth edition, welcoming the public for free into 150 important, historic, and just plain interesting buildings across the city. It would be virtually impossible for one person to take in all of the participating sites in one weekend, so it's best to pace yourself and visit a cluster of buildings......

Little-known fact: Third-party mobile signs, such as the one above for the U of T Career Centre, are illegal in Toronto (and the City recently hired a sort of bounty hunter to drive around in a truck, seizing and impounding them). Perhaps this is one of the reasons why. Photo taken by Jonathan Goldsbie early Thursday morning at the northwest corner of St. George and Harbord. The sign has since been removed.......

UN Messenger of Peace Dr. Jane Goodall is celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of her eponymous Institute this year, and Toronto is lucky enough to be part of the festivities. Dr. Goodall, most renowned for her involvement with chimpanzees in Tanzania, will grace Toronto for three days in September. Of particular interest is the good doctor's appearance at UofT's Convocation Hall on September 15. According to Tim Grant, co-editor of Green Teacher magazine, Dr. Goodall will......

The Depth of the Ocean is a site-specific Fringe show with a fabulous concept. Audience members are seated in the bleachers of the Benson pool at UofT's Athletics Centre and the actors emerge from the water, drawn to a single lifeboat anchored in the centre of the pool. A play in a pool is rare and exciting, as is the concept of actors who deliver their lines while swimming. If only the script were......

Often, ideas are continually improved through the feedback of others. Other times, an idea is at its best when first conceived, and can only be diluted from there. That's part of what Amy Leaman and Ryan Planche wanted to explore by creating Shift:Positions, the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) Student Press' inaugural book, which launches tonight at the Gladstone Hotel. The book contains fourteen essays written by OCAD industrial and environmental design grads......

The University of Toronto really seems to be getting as much as it can out of its relationship with Atom Egoyan. The Canadian film auteur, currently in the first year of his three-year term as the Dean's Distinguished Visitor in Theatre, Film, Music and Visual Arts, will be giving a free lecture at Innis Town Hall tonight (Wednesday, April 11) where he will screen a selection of his short films and discuss "the appeals and......

Almost 20 years ago, in 1988, over 300 scientists and policy-makers from 46 different countries and organizations came together to discuss the crisis of climate change in Toronto. It was called “The Toronto Conference,” and their final statement began with the following sentence: "Humanity is conducting an unintended, uncontrolled, globally pervasive experiment, whose ultimate consequence could be second only to a global nuclear war." In other words, they were a little concerned. At the......

Torontoist notices that the City's BikeWeek celebration seems to stretch a little longer each year. The 2006 edition officially stretches from May 29 to June 11, almost two weeks, and if you include the fact that many of the events started well before the 29th you could almost rename the event BikeMonth. But we digress. The first large event is Monday's Breakfast and Lunchtime cycling fest at City Hall which will include a group......

Since the turn of fall (if it has even turned yet?) Torontoist has noticed a slew of discarded bicycles around the city. We guess since summer ended, most people have no use for two-wheelers and no storage space for next spring...so they chuck them on the side of the road. This bike was found in the Resevoir at St. Clair and Avoca, albeit with two flat tires. Torontoist had the idea to restore this now-clunker......
