ART: Communication | Environment, part of Luminato, features a series of eye-popping installations with the common theme of contemporary communications. Among them is David Rokeby’s installation at the Allen Lambert Galleria, which features sixty-four spheres suspended along the atrium in the form of a modified sine wave (the basic structure of wireless communication). ART: Still looking for the perfect picture to fit into that eight-by-eight inch frame you got last Christmas? Head on down to the opening of the Love Show and pick up one of the many eight-by-eight inch pieces of art on sale, starting at $100. Proceeds go to a selection of youth outreach programs, so you can feel morally cleansed after making that crass joke about "something else eight-by-eight inches" that we've tastefully declined to print here, you filthy animals. MUSIC: Today, War Child Canada is presenting "Busking For Change," a day-long busking event featuring a number of reasonably successful Canadian performers. Among those performing are Our Lady Peace's Raine Maida (a fervent supporter of War Child Canada), Chantal Kreviazuk, Zack Werner, The Waking Eyes, and Neverending White Lights. Expect to see lots of teenaged girls unable to control their excitement, and a slough of disgruntled buskers who've had their spots stolen by real musicians with stable income. Various locations in the downtown core, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.., FREE (plus the donation to War Child Canada you'll inevitably end up making).

It's going to be a busy couple of weeks in Toronto, and you may have a tough time deciding just what bookish thing to attend. If anything, Torontoist recommends you check out this year's second Toronto Small Press Book Fair this Saturday. The twice-yearly event features a variety of micro to medium-sized presses offering zines, books, chapbooks, journals, hand-made crafts, and many other wonderful things. And if you've got any time and energy left after the fair, you also might want to head down to the Cervejaria, where the Toronto Poetry Slam will be celebrating their second anniversary. There will be a spoken word competition, featuring the spoken word folk band, The Fugitives.

The Diamond Cherry Reading Series – run by local poets and small-press publishers Devon Gallant and Julie Cameron Gray – kicks-off the week with performances by audio poet Hilary Peach (Poems Only Dogs Can Hear) and singer/songwriter/poet Nik Beat. The series takes place each month at the Zemra Lounge – 778 St. Clair West – and starts at 8pm. It’s free, too, so you have no excuse not to go.
