Films! Films films films films. Sometimes it’s hard to get this column started, so we just sit in front of a blank word document and type the word "films" until it doesn’t make any sense to us any more. But by then, we’ve got started typing, at least, and so we continue. Cloverfield! Also, we just type the names of the films that are out that week with exclamation marks! In an attempt to......

Each week, Torontoist shows off the most interesting, creative, and cool submissions to our Torontoist Flickr Pool. We're especially partial to photos that show our city in a new light, highlight a recent event, and remind us why we live here. Join the Flickr pool and show us what you've got. The View From Afar is a photo series that will look at what's happening in other cities for inspiration, lessons in what not to do to your city, and other tips for the urbane urbanist. This week's installation of The View From Afar comes from Highway 5. Dundas Street turns into Highway 5 west of Mississauga, and along this route you can see how suburbia encroaches on rural areas and displaces them.......

"Oh my God, my blow-up doll has been brutally murdered!" shrieked the young woman from the southeast corner of John and Richmond as she clutched her fake-blood-soaked inflatable companion. "My only friend, and someone brutally shot her! The horror! Why hasn't the police security camera done anything about it?!" Early Saturday afternoon, the Toronto Public Space Committee's Cameras in Public Spaces campaign performed this bit of street theatre in the Entertainment District. It was......

A lot happens in and around Toronto, but we can only write about so much in a week. Here's the best of the rest, in a new weekly feature we're calling Superfluist. Superfluist will appear every Friday night. Cathy Gordon decided to get very, very publicly divorced on Monday, with an art piece she called "On My Knees." For it, she crawled around Toronto for a while (on her knees!), signed divorce papers, and then......

The old sales pavilion and welcome centre at the superfluouslyy-lettered Minto Skyy condo on Broadview went for a brief flight of fancyy this morning before settling into its new home at the opposite end of the construction site. One passerbyy was heard to wonder whether Minto was taking the realism of its model suite to new heights, hoisting it into the skyy to show potential buyers the view from the upper floors. Another remarked......

Each weekday morning, we pick a recent image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It's our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve! "Thank goodness for an open dome," the quote that accompanies former contributor Chromewaves photo, seems to sum up the Jays' performance perfectly as of late. Last night's 8-0 loss at the Rogers Centre made it nine in a row,......

A group of airport taxi drivers were ejected from the Toronto council chambers yesterday after a dispute regarding the council's plan to ban taxis that are not registered in Toronto from picking up fares downtown. In related news, city councillors got their class portrait taken. Awwww. More information on the Jane Creba shooting is being revealed as witnesses reluctantly give their statements to the police. It's official: the sale of incandescent lights will be......

Spring is in the air. Can you feel the love? Apparently while in town this past weekend for a speaking engagement at The Learning Annex Real Estate and Wealth Expo, The Donald also found time to take his message to the streets. Apparently the beef with Rosie is finished and The Donald has developed a new affinity for this star of The View. What a big softie! Find more here, and see some more......

Austinist gets arty with an interactive guide to SXSW, loved some local art galleries and a new art exhibit and lamented the possible loss of "Friday Night Lights" production to New Mexico. Bostonist was happy they finally found an Anna Nicole Smith connection to their fair city and that an Apple Store was opening up. They were less happy that new rules have been established limiting underage shows and that their Governor is spending a......

We just got sent these photos from an anonymous reader, and we thought that they were too cool to pass up. They were taken late last night from the open and unfinished (read: windy and really, really scary) roof of One St. Thomas, a 32-floor ultra-ultra-luxury condo at St. Thomas and Charles Street West that's still very much under construction. Click either photo to see it larger. Prices go well past $10,000,000 for a view......

If the chatter surrounding recent results from speed skating, pairs figure skating or the entire history of hockey is to be believed, then a little adversity in the form of cold, hard outdoor ice just might be the secret ingredient in Olympic Glory. Possibly the best thing we can do for winter sport in this country is grab the nearest child we are legally permitted to guard and take places and head on down......
