When deciding who to see at this year's Over The Top Festival, we luckily opted to check out Halifax's Rich Aucoin. Between his musical pedigree (he's the brother of the Hylozoist's Paul Aucoin) and the fact that his EP was synched up to How The Grinch Stole Christmas, we knew he would at least be interesting. His set turned out to be far better than just interesting, so it seemed natural to give his Personal Publication EP (Independent) a proper review.

In today's news, Canada joins the global chorus in support of sanctions against North Korea as it threatens more nuclear tests. Korea promises to greet sanctions as an act of war. The US says it won't invade and wonders what more the dictatorship wants. The Toronto Korean Senior Citizen's society and Canadians teaching English in North Korea are nervous.

The Guardian Angels hold their first recruiting session and vow to be on the streets by the summer. The mayor and the chief of police gave them the cold shoulder last time but criticism is a little more muted this time around. Torontoist remains lukewarm on the volunteer crime-prevention group. We'd prefer to see trained police officers doing the job of crime prevention and community policing but can understand how people in the city feel frustrated by gun crime.
