Who likes lists? Everybody! As we creep up on the new year, we thought we'd reflect on a few of our more popular (and our more controversial) posts of the past twelve months. Thanks to our revamped Favourites page, it's a little easier. If nothing else, this post will give you some reading material to glance over while you're busy getting spiffy for this fine evening. 1. Our TTC Swag Suggestions (144 comments, October......

You know your style must be tasty when everyone keeps trying to bite it. This new advertisement for Johnnie Walker whisky which has recently festooned Union station is clearly attempting to ally its product with our fair city by blatantly ripping off the Torontoist logo. Oh, sure. The buildings are in a different order and they use the Skydome instead of a streetcar and they throw in the outline of what I assume is meant......

Torontoist reader Gareth saw our post last week featuring a photograph, shot from the CN Tower, of fog blanketing the downtown core. Two days later, he found himself on a plane to Vancouver "in the wee hours of the morning," and snapped this equally breathtaking photo of the city below him. Click on the photo to see it bigger. We can hardly believe our eyes. "It looks like the CN Tower is drawn in,"......

Tonight Pontiac Quarterly unleashes its second issue this year at The Drake Hotel (8pm). For those of you unfamiliar, PQ is a performance magazine where writers read their fiction, feature stories - even advice columns - on stage in front of a live audience. Coming around only four times a year (it's right there in the title!), The Torontoist looks forward to it like our mom looks forward to gardening season. This issue's theme......

We at the Torontoist would like to apologize for how repetitive our basketball reports are becoming. As sorry as we are, though, it appears that nothing is changing. Our “beloved” Dino’s lost yet another game Sunday afternoon, this time to Shaq-fu and the Miami Heat. It was the Raps seventh straight loss since they beat the same Heat in south Florida late last November. With games against T-wolves, Pacers, Nets, Rockets, Jazz, Suns, Lakers and......

The Tarragon Theatre’s got a couple of winners on its stages right now. In the Mainspace, David S. Young’s adaptation of Alistair MacLeod’s epic novel No Great Mischief is playing to well-deserved sold-out houses. Even on a Tuesday night this Torontoist theatregoer and his fake date had trouble finding seats next to each other, so do arrive early if you want a good placement. The reviews haven’t been very kind to the show about the......

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6…Former Modern Lover Jonathan Richman is in love with the old world, and apparently the city of Toronto. Richman will take up a three-night residency at Queen St’s Lula Lounge beginning on Monday, Nov. 8. The notoriously unpredictable rock’n’roller will play back-to-back-to-back shows promoting his new album, Not So Much To Be Loved But To Love. For those unfamiliar with Richman’s oeuvre, the eccentric cult figure came to prominence with......
