The confirmed headliners were announced today for Toronto's second Virgin Festival, happening September 9 and 10, on Olympic Island. The top spots this year go to the (sort of) newly reformed Smashing Pumpkins, who will headline the festival on Day 2, and Iceland's most eccentric citizen, Bjork, who will close Day 1. Other bands announced include The Killers, Interpol, Jamie T., Paolo Nutini, Amy Winehouse, and we're happy to say, Toronto's own Tokyo Police Club!......

Compared to the past few weeks, this one's a bit quieter in the live music world, but there are still some decent shows to check out. Of note, Beck brings his two turntables and a mic to the Ricoh Coliseum tonight (too bad about the location), you can get Comfortably Numb (in a few ways, we're sure) at the Opera House or check out the moustachiod Killers at the Kool Haus on Friday, and......

Tsk, tsk. Late two weeks in a row. Someone needs a good spanking. Next week we'll get our act together and put Torontoist before busy schedules and get this puppy out on time. Pinky swear. As always, let us know in the comments section if you're heading to any good shows that we missed. Particularly for this Thursday...we need some hot action that night. Recently Announced Sept. 11 - M Ward @ Mod Club, $16.50......

Tommy: What is that? Hedwig: It's what I have to work with. Torontoist finds it interesting that an established play would be considered on the 'fringes.' But at the same time, this is Hedwig... and how long can a play about a Barbie doll crotched rocker really stay near the mainstream? Regardless, John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's epic works rather well in this production. The concert (it's more concert than 'play') retains its......

It's easy to avoid The Game and Fifty Cents. Likewise for Nickelback. It's even pretty easy to stay away from Thornley and the Barenaked Ladies. They don't bother us, and we don't bother them. But there are some bands, SOME bands, that bring us to the brink of violent disgust; it's almost beyond hatred. One example that is often played out here on Mercredi Mixtape is our distaste for Las Vegas corporate rockers The Killers.......

As Torontoist sits down to reflect upon last year's Arcade Fire album, we ask ourselves: "Is all we ever do is sit down to reflect upon last year's Arcade Fire album?" Watching the Win and Regine show last night on Conan O'Brien raised a completely separate issue though. That issue, briefly, is Chart Magazine. (Not a specific Chart issue, but the content of the publication in general.) This week's 2004 Eye Music Critic's Poll included......

The best way to compile a year-end list is to wait for everyone else's year-end lists before making any rash decisions. Not only does this method allow for appropriate deliberation, but also makes it easy to sidestep any of the poor choices made by other list-makers. For instance, upon scientific study of the P'fork singles list, Torontoist decided that both Beyonce's "Naughty Girl" and Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like It's Hot" can NOT be included......

As the title of this post suggests, there are a number of pressing items regarding Mint Record's The Organ. They are as follows: 1) According to Chart Magazine, bassist Ashley Webber has left the band. Also according to Chart, The Killers are "the next big thing." Rumour has it that Organ's 604 label boss Chad Kroeger will be taking up bass for the band. 2) Organ lead singer Katie Sketch is featured on a......
