Every weekday morning, bright and early, we feature a photo (or two) from a photographer in the Torontoist Flickr Pool. It's our way of giving the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention that they deserve. Untitled BY JASMINE CANDY......

Photo by Caesar Sebastian. Justice brings their gigantic glowing cross and their hot electro-house beats to the city on Monday. While the Sound Academy (ex-The Docks) is usually an awkward place to see music, it's well suited for this show. There will be plenty of space for people to "D.A.N.C.E." and the duo has a sound large enough to match the venue. They'll be joined by fellow Parisian Busy P and Fancy at the......

Rabbit in the Moon, the legendary Los Angeles-based funky techno crew best known for their insane, pyrotechnic, costumed stage performances and dark, live beats, is headlining the last ever all-ages party at The Sound Academy, a.k.a. The Docks, this Saturday at Destiny's Together As One. This will be the first time Rabbit in the Moon has performed within city limits since 1999, which should prove to be a frenetic, immersive performance with wearable lasers,......

Is 1996 retro yet? Probably not, but that doesn't mean Toronto isn't way overdue for some good, old-fashioned ska-punk sounds courtesy of Less Than Jake, who are playing a free show this Saturday (January 19) at 8:00 p.m. at The Sound Academy (aka. The Docks). They make us all nostalgic for the old days...you know, hanging out in dirty parking lots with skateboards and big puffy shoes, dreaming about when your first chair trombone......

Photo of Smoosh by absolutwade. This week, Musicologist is a bit biased since we've been helping organize Ladyfest, taking place this weekend. Even if we weren't, we'd still recommend it. But this week we'd also suggest heading to the El Mocambo tonight to check out Donkey Punch, if you're not an indie rock snob and like classic rock/blues-influenced songs and catchy, catchy melodies. It's free, so you don't have anything to lose. Ulrich Schnauss......

Because there are only a handful of Canadians in the NCAA, (and who really cares about college basketball, anyway?) we thought we'd cook up a little March Madness of our own - Toronto style. We have created a tournament ladder of recent memes, blog drama and local news and for the next two weeks, you will decide the winner of each match. Sure beats betting on Kansas State. You can view the ladder full......

Torontoist caught-up with Dave Azzolini and Jess Grassia of The Golden Dogs recently. Having finished a radio interview, they were rushing to pick up the rest of the band and proceed to The Docks for 2007 Indie Awards. Torontoist interviewed them in their van as all this happened—because such is Canadian Music Week. (And apparently we enjoy bands and their vans.) The Golden Dogs play Horseshoe Tavern tonight at 12 p.m. Tickets are $8 at......

Tonight begins the running around from venue to venue, as Canadian Music Week starts it's second day. The Indie Awards last night at The Docks were... interesting, but now the real fun starts. As such, here is our second installment of CMW previews to help you plan your Friday evening. If you missed the first preview, you can check it out here Tickets can be purchased in limited numbers for each showcase, or you can......

It's that time -- Canadian Music Week has finally arrived and is taking over just about every decent music venue in the city for the next four days, starting tonight with the Indie Awards at The Docks. Planning on checking some shows out, but can't make heads or tails of the overwhelming number of bands playing? We're here to help. We've scoured the list of over 500 bands to seek out some of the shows......

It's finally here - the week of festival hell insanity. Got your wristbands and earplugs ready? Canadian Music Week kicks off on Wednesday with the Indie Awards at The Docks, and Thursday to Saturday will have you running around town trying to catch as many acts as possible. Wristbands are $35, or you can purchase (limited) tickets at the door to most shows. Not your thing this year? There's also the Pitter Patter Festival......

Opposition parties are crying foul over Harper's use of military jets. After accusing the Liberals of overusing the jets for personal business during their time in government, Harper used one to fly his son to Toronto for a Leafs game. Pot, meet kettle. A lethal bacterial strain common in hospitals has hit Mississauga. According to the article, C. difficile is spread through fecal matter. We don't even want to know what's going on in our......

¡Prospero año! Perhaps the only party "weekend" that Torontonians take more seriously than Halloween weekend, New Year's starts days before the calendar ends and terminates in a hangover, often in strange settings. We have rounded up what this Torontoist considers the best parties at which to get your groove on and completely forget the year 2006. When the glitter settles, the real question will be, "Where's the afterparty?" Goodfellaz and Nocturnal Commissions present Kenya......

Compared to the past few weeks, this one's a bit quieter in the live music world, but there are still some decent shows to check out. Of note, Beck brings his two turntables and a mic to the Ricoh Coliseum tonight (too bad about the location), you can get Comfortably Numb (in a few ways, we're sure) at the Opera House or check out the moustachiod Killers at the Kool Haus on Friday, and......

It's a busy music week, this one. There's everything from samba to classical music, so all of you anti-hipsters should be pleased. Most importantly, Torontoist's 'Back to School' Party is this Thursday, and we better see y'all there -- especially you anonymous commenters. You know who you are. As always, if there's a show happening that we haven't listed, let us know in the comments. Recently Announced Oct. 4 - The Long Winters @......

Tsk, tsk. Late two weeks in a row. Someone needs a good spanking. Next week we'll get our act together and put Torontoist before busy schedules and get this puppy out on time. Pinky swear. As always, let us know in the comments section if you're heading to any good shows that we missed. Particularly for this Thursday...we need some hot action that night. Recently Announced Sept. 11 - M Ward @ Mod Club, $16.50......

David Soknacki, the right-winger picked by David Miller to be his budget chief, has announced that he is retiring from politics and will not be running for re-election in Ward 43 - Scarborough East this fall. Some councillors see this as another sign that Miller can't work with others who don't see his viewpoint. In the past, Soknacki has openly criticized the Mayor and his allies. Nonetheless he's earned the respect of many from Miller's......

Three hit and runs in Etobicoke over the weekend has killed one and injured five others. Two of the hit and runs were possibly sparked by earlier disputes. Sgt. Cam Wooley, our favourite OPP officer, regales us with tales of idiotic drivers on Ontario's highways. Highlights include a man driving without a license with other adults in the car who did, and concerned citizens who told officers that the speeder they were ticketing was also......

The Docks has had its liquor license pulled due to a stream of noise complaints from Toronto Islands residents. They're appealing the decision so we hope it's not premature to say good riddance. We personally can't stand the Docks and think it's one of the most poorly planned live venues in the city. It's hard to get to using public transit, overpriced, has terrible sightlines and acoustics. We're not going to miss it one......

Funny how quickly a show can go from pariah to the hot ticket in town. Sunday's New Pornographers show created a dilemma for fans who didn't want to miss seeing the full-roster band including Destroyer's Dan Bejar (also opening the show) and Neko Case (whose own skyrocketing fame all but ensures this is the last time she'll be able to tour with the band), but on the other hand, didn't want to make the trek......

In hopes of turning this weather a little warmer, Torontoist wants to suggest some saucy summer venues which are good for going on dates. Because after all, a summer romance needs to be unique, and it can't if you're carousing the same locals you did all winter. If you want to go somewhere busy but intimate: The 360 degree turn that the Black Bull Tavern does when the snow thaws is incredible. Featuring one of......
