Really we were. Between the alcohol and the giddiness and the fact that we couldn't think of anything intelligent to ask him about his new movie, Coopers' Camera, we opted instead to snap a few photos from afar. And then when we finally did work up the nerve to approach him, he had just left, leaving us with memories of Homer and Mr. T.

A couple of weeks ago, The Daily Show upgraded their website, adding a free and fully-searchable video database of the past eight years of programs from the Jon Stewart era. For fans of the show, it was heaven. Imagine being able to instantly watch one of those old “Even Stevphen” segments with Carell and Colbert, before their bloated comic egos whisked them away to greener pastures and/or the studio down the block. Or how about something from the Indecision 2000 campaign trail, which as you might recall ended up going into overtime (“Electile Dysfunction”)? It almost sounded too good to be true…and it was, at least for Canada.

The headline doesn't lie, folks. The self-professed "angriest man in America" and The Daily Show regular Lewis Black will be wagging his infamous finger in Toronto as a part of the first annual Just For Laughs Toronto Festival.

Michael Moore’s much anticipated Sicko hits, and having seen it, we can say it’s not particularly essential for Canadian viewers to watch, unless you want to feel smug about our lovely health care system, or slightly surprised that it only takes an hour or so in London (Ontario) to be seen in an emergency room. Yes, the film is chock-a-block with anecdotal evidence, and it’s probably to the film’s fault that, as usual, Moore is selective with his anecdotes to only show free universal health care in a positively glowing light.

This has been a rough week for your -ist pals, though you wouldn't know it from the great posts all over the network. Plagued with server problems, our tech team (led by the great Neil Epstein) toiled around the clock to solve the glitches as they arose. Seriously, we've said, typed, and thought the phrase "server problems" more in the past week than we have for the last 35 years combined. Why not say it a few more times, just for fun? For example, SFist is sure the San Francisco Chronicle wishes they could blame server problems for this error. But this San Francisco man that appeared on "The Daily Show" is, sadly, no glitch in the system.

MTV Canada launched three months ago, and since that time one thing has become obvious: it's way better than MuchMusic. Less annoying VJs (including Daryn Jones, of Daryn Jones & Mista Mo fame) and way more addictive content (My Super Sweet 16 and Laguna Beach, to name a few) are just the tip of this sexy, American iceberg. Sure, MTV doesn't have any actual music videos and their website is a huge pain to navigate, but for some reason, that doesn't matter; it's all coated in MTV goodness. The two channels are so unequal in quality, it's like comparing The Daily Show to Last Call with Carson Daly. No contest.

dvd (which, don't get us wrong, we are always happy to do). Tonight, however, the stars seemed to have aligned in a truly magical way, and there are two excellent reasons for you to stay close to the couch.

Or some variation thereupon, when said comedian channels his alter ego, Danny Husk, a hard-workin' fashion journalist who'll be doing weekly 'Investigative Report' segments for City TV's Fashion Television. This Danny Husk character will bring us a series of fashion bits, which come off as the Daily Show meets Ali G meets Anchorman. And based on the teaser we watched, TOist is curious. "He's a Straight Man. Asking Hard Questions," says the release. And he gets kicked out of the tents. And seduces Bijoux Phillips. And somehow convinces P. Diddy there's a fire in his brand new store. Starts Sunday on City TV.

A hot topic around certain media water coolers this week is definitely George. And for once it’s not Mr. Bush we’re scrutinizing, it’s Mr. Stroumboulopoulos and his new show, The Hour.
