Earlier this week, The New York Times ditched their Times Select subscription thing, a move that saw content previously available for about $8 a month––like some well-liked columnists, for instance––unlocked and made free for everyone. Best of all, though, was the huge amount of material from the newspaper's archives that was set free, dating all the way back to 1851.

And a million other iconic images. News yesterday that Ryerson would be recipient to what is one of the coolest anonymous donations ever nearly blew us way. The Black Star Agency holds the rights to some of the most seminal snaps in history, and thanks to the marvels of digitization, they no longer need their prints. So, by some blessed fortuity, Ryerson will be recipient to Black Star's three hundred thousand strong collection, a gift worth approximately 7 million dollars. They'll also be building a gallery to house the works.
