This Saturday is the annual celebration of all things graphically novelistic: Free Comic Book Day. Free Comic Book Day is a very simple exercise: you go into your local comic book shop, and there are free comic books. This may seem complex, so we'll go over it again: Step 1. Find a convenient comic book store. In the downtown core, you have umpteen choices: Hairy Tarantula, The Labyrinth, 1,000,000 Comix, Silver Snail, or 3rd......

Fans of the Colbert Report need no introduction to Tek Jansen. He's the intergalactic swashbuckling alter-ego of Stephen Colbert who is the subject of a sci-fi book and cartoon series called Alpha Squad 7. Oni Press is releasing a five-part comic book serial based on the Tek Jansen adventures called Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen in Alpha Squad 7. Torontoist loves Christmas windows. And especially Toronto cartoonist Graham Roumieu's goofily macabre Christmas window for The Beguiling, featuring the famously elusive personage of Bigfoot and his charmingly neanderthal mangling of basic grammar and syntax. We're ooo-ing over the chorus of disembodied screaming heads, and aaa-ing at the festive blood seeping through Bigfoot-as-Santa's bag of goodies. Roumieu is celebrating the launch of Me Write Book: It Bigfoot Memoir (the sequel to Bigfoot's popular illustrated memoir In......

Tonight is your chance to meet-and-greet......

Toronto's House of Bookish Wonders, The Beguiling, plays host to a graphic novel launch this Saturday, when No Dead Time, the alluring work of Canadian cartoonist and scribe (for Tribe) Brian McLachlan gets feted at Bordello (that scary little place just north of The Beguiling itself). It's equal parts culture jam and slacker meditation. And from the sixteen page preview that you can see here, Torontoist finds itself sufficiently enchanted with both the writing and......
