In the fall of 1979, 21-year-old Terry Fox, recovering from a recent lower-leg amputation, devised a plan to help support the thousands of Canadians who, like him, had faced off with cancer. He would run across Canada, beginning in St. John's, Newfoundland, and wrapping up on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Figuring the journey would take roughly five months, Fox hoped to raise $1 for every Canadian man, woman and child.
Every major media outlets is touting this summer as one of the worst construction seasons ever. The Gardiner is closed this weekend and other major thoroughfares like the DVP will also be affected by construction throughout the summer.
The Orion was launched in 1979, and though Terry went through nine left shoes, he never had to change the right one. Kind of cool that they're bringing out the shoe in time for the annual Terry Fox Run, and since a pair of Converse can easily run you $100 these days, might as well put your sneaker money towards a good cause, if you're in need of a new pair. Then you must go run a marathon.
