The 100-Mile Liquid Diet

The success of and interest in Toronto breweries has taken off as the push to eat and buy local food has branched into the beverage industry. With big names like Steam Whistle and Mill St. battling it out with emerging brands like Great Lakes, the industry is seriously booming in this city.

If you’re looking for a charitable alternative to your customary Groundhog Day festivities this Friday, the Steam Whistle Brewing Company will be home to Weaselpalooza, a party for the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund.

That’s right, on Saturday, November 11, Toronto will be hosting the 2006 Rock, Paper, Scissors World Championship. The sport that’s settled a thousand disputes between drunks, children, and drunk children will see it’s best and luckiest players vying for a $10,000 prize and bragging rights for the next year. Teams already signed up this year include Team Smoot, Balls Deep, and BJs for Spanky.

TOists will be shaking their booty at Do Something With A Blundstone, the Aussie-themed fundraising party tonight. It's a benefit for SKETCH, the lofty downtown arts studio that offers street-involved and homeless youth drop-in programs that integrate job and life skills development through the visual arts. At the home of the good pilsner folks Steam Whistle Brewing from 7pm to 2am tonight, ten bucks at the door gets you into the party (plenty of food and drink inside), a chance to win a pair of boots and at midnight, instead of turning into a pumpkin, entered in a draw for two tickets to Australia.
